The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors.

The GMC has a robust, well established suite of integrated enterprise systems that are used to manage the day to day operational activities of the organisation. These systems include B2C and B2B portals, Siebel, Unit4 Business World, Tableau, Open Text Content Server and a SiteCore digital platform.
We are now seeking to recruit a Head of Enterprise Systems who will be responsible for the development and support of these systems in line with corporate plans and objectives.
This role will involve leading a highly experienced team of product managers, business analysts, developers, testers, and system analysts to ensure that high quality system enhancements are delivered, and that effective operational support is provided.
This will require considerable interaction with the GMC's business units to understand their requirements for system changes, which will need to be prioritised and incorporated into the system development roadmap.

Key responsibilities will include:
To produce and manage the roadmap for delivery of new system capabilities, working in collaboration with the GMC's business units.
This will also include:
o developing and executing plans to deliver the roadmap, ensuring that system enhancements are high quality, robust and implemented within agreed budgets and timeframes.
o leading in the procurement activity required to support the system development roadmap, including software and consultancy services.
To provide a high standard of customer service including reporting progress against plans to key stakeholders and ensuring that business benefits are delivered
To lead on the planning and execution of the IT elements of GMC's high-profile strategic initiatives including an ongoing digital transformation
To lead the Enterprise Systems team, ensuring it is resourced effectively and that the team are motivated and have a clear understanding of their responsibilities.
The post holder will also have responsibility to mentor and develop staff, identifying and agreeing learning and improvement opportunities
To identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement - to work with business leaders to incorporate these opportunities into the system development roadmap
To manage supplier relationships within the contract terms, ensuring they are providing high quality products and services that represent excellent value for money
To effectively manage the Enterprise Systems budget
To identify risks and issues and be responsible for their effective management.
To work in accordance with established business/systems methods and quality standards
To provide leadership and drive on diversity and equality policy and practice, including equality assessments.
To apply the relevant management systems, procedures and policies relating to risk management, health and safety, information security and business continuity
Any other reasonable duties as may be assigned from time to time
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Extensive experience in leading an application development function in an enterprise scale environment
Experience in managing large scale, highly visible, IT projects across the full life cycle.
Proven success in defining, building and releasing software
Experience using Waterfall, Agile and hybrid software development methodologies and a good understanding of software development best practice
Experience of API management, modern programming languages such as Java and .NET framework and both manual and automated testing tools and approaches
Knowledge and experience of ITIL standards or similar methodologies
Strong experience managing an Agile website development function.
Management of mobile app development advantageous
You must be able to present persuasive arguments, manage resistance, gain co-operation, understanding and consent to decisions and proposals through written and personal presentations
You will have high-level analytical and decision-making skills, be able to quickly grasp concepts, consider the information available, identify where more information is required, solve complex problems and make effective decisions in consultation with others
